McDonalds sent the out-of production sauce to the show’s creators before announcing its return

A McDonald’s PR stunt to bring back a rare dipping sauce left thousands of fans disappointed as well as police called to some US restaurants on Saturday.

The Szechuan sauce, which was only made in 1998 to promote the film Mulan, has become well known after featuring from the common cartoon Rick as well as Morty.

In July the chain sent a large bottle of the sauce to the show’s creators.

They then announced the idea would likely come back for one day on 7 October, nevertheless fans were left disappointed after stores ran out.
